Mit „Discordia“ (Earshift/Bandcamp) bringt der australische Saxofonist und Bassklarinettist Jeremy Rose bereits das zweite Album mit seinem Earshift Orchestra auf den Markt. „Das ist nach ‚Disruption‘ das zweite Album, das meine größere achtköpfige Band mit zwei Drummern präsentiert“, zeigt sich der Bandleader sichtlich stolz. „Wir überlegen, Ende des Jahres in Europa auf Tour zu gehen. Der Zugang zum europäischen Musikmarkt ist für australische Musiker natürlich besonders schwierig, den manmuss sich 20 Stunden in den Flieger setzen, um zu euch zu kommen. Zudem ist gerade der Jazz sehr auf die USA fokussiert. Aber es gibt tolle Musiker bei uns, und wir hoffen natürlich, das wir sie durch das Earshift-Label in Amerika und in Europa bekannter machen können.“ 

Mit „Disruption“ ist das bereits gelungen, das Album wurde imbritischen Jazzwise, im österreichischen Skug und natürlich auch in Jazz thing rezensiert. Rose ist aber nicht nur der Bandleader des Earshift Orchestra, er hat vor 15 Jahren auch das gleichnamige Label ins Leben gerufen – der Beginn war bescheiden. „Zu Anfang wollte ich vor allem eine Plattform, um meine eigenen Projekte veröffentlichen zu können“, erzählt Rose. „Das hat sich dann immer mehr durch Freunde und Kollegen erweitert. Wir haben auch keinen besonders engen Jazzbegriff und sind immer bemüht, seine Grenzen auszudehnen. Das ist genau die künstlerische Freiheit, die viele australische Musiker auszeichnet.“ Auf Earshift haben schon Musiker wie The Vampires, das Folk-Jazzduo SamAnning & Kristin Berardi und der Trompeter Reuben Lewis Alben veröffentlicht. „Wir bemühen uns, Musik zumachen, die Integrität besitzt und die dieWelt reflektiert, in der wir leben“, bringt Rose die verschiedenen Musiker auf einen gemeinsamen Nenner. „Es gibt so viele tolle Stimmen, die noch nicht so bekannt sind, und das treibt uns an. Mit unserem 15-jährigen Jubiläum feiern wir auch die Magie der Zusammenarbeit innerhalb der australischen Jazz-Community.“

With "Discordia" (Earshift/Bandcamp), the Australian saxophonist and bass clarinetist Jeremy Rose releases the second album with his Earshift Orchestra. "Following 'Disruption', this is the second album featuring my larger eight-member band with two drummers," the bandleader is visibly proud. "We are considering going on tour in Europe at the end of the year. Access to the European music market is, of course, particularly difficult for Australian musicians since one has to spend 20 hours on a plane to come to you. Moreover, jazz is very focused on the USA. But there are great musicians with us, and of course, we hope that we can make them more well-known in America and Europe through the Earshift label."

"Disruption" has already achieved this, with the album reviewed in British Jazzwise, Austrian Skug, and of course, in Jazz thing. But Rose is not only the bandleader of the Earshift Orchestra; he also founded the eponymous label 15 years ago – the beginning was modest. "Initially, I wanted primarily a platform to be able to release my own projects," Rose recounts. "That then expanded increasingly through friends and colleagues. We also don't have a particularly narrow definition of jazz and are always striving to extend its boundaries. That is exactly the artistic freedom that characterizes many Australian musicians." Musicians like The Vampires, the folk-jazz duo Sam Anning & Kristin Berardi, and the trumpeter Reuben Lewis have released albums on Earshift.
